The truth shall make you free!

Posted by Mike on 16th January 2009

I came to the realization today, that I now understand a foundational truth from God.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. — John 8:32

It’s really sad that it took 27 years as a believer to get to this point, but perhaps I am just that dense or stubborn.  I praise God that he gave me the time to get here.  I no longer have to fight my flesh because it died with Christ.  I didn’t have to fight it all these years, but that is what I was doing.  Yes, I needed to understand and believe the truth that I was crucified with Christ and my flesh is as dead as Jesus was.  My place is with Him and that is the truth, whether I knew it or not. I know it now.  I am grateful to my Lord.

I am not the same anymore.  I am right with God.

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. — Romans 8:13-15

God bless, Mike

Why does our government borrow?

Posted by Mike on 13th December 2008

Why does our government borrow so much money when doing that is directly opposed to God’s principles?

For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee. — Deuteronomy 15:6 (KJV)

This was God’s instructions to the nation Israel regarding national debt. It is a principle that any government would be wise to follow. As you can see, nations that don’t borrow reign over other nations. Nations that borrow are reigned over by the lender nations. What kind of nation is the United States? We are the borrowing kind. That does not bode well for our future as a sovereign nation.

“I place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.” — Thomas Jefferson, third US president, architect and author (1743-1826)

Need I say more?

Posted by Mike on 21st July 2008

Quoted from the Associated Press.

“I never thought I would hear myself saying this,” Dobson said in a radio broadcast to air Monday. “… While I am not endorsing Senator John McCain, the possibility is there that I might.”

What happened to?

Earlier, Dobson had said he could not in good conscience vote for McCain, citing the candidate’s support for embryonic stem cell research and opposition to a federal constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, as well as concerns about McCain’s temper and foul language.

The lessor of two evils is not a vote of conscience or beliefs. It is a pragmatic approach that furthers the decline of the United States. The Christian voting block is a large and powerful one. We can choose (and vote for) a candidate that will work hard to further a platform that is aligned with Biblical values. Read the platform of the Constitution Party.

It’s time to leave the Republican Party behind. Read the Promoting a Culture of Life section of the 2004 platform. For six years the GOP controlled the House, Senate, and the Executive Branch. Did they strike down abortion? No! I was shocked when I heard the chairman of the Iowa Republican Party admit on a radio program that he hadn’t had time to read the party platform!

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20 (KJV)

Don’t pick the lessor of two evils. Vote your convictions, Christian. It is your civic and moral duty.

Writing for Security

Posted by Mike on 9th November 2006

I have the most overwhelming need to write this morning, although no particular subject came to mind. Writing is a comfort to me. Maybe I just needed to comfort myself using the written word. I have been reflecting on the freedoms we enjoy in the United States and the freedoms we have lost. Freedom brings responsibility to provide and protect yourself, and those who depend on you. Safety implies that you give up some of your freedom. I have found that being free is more daring and dangerous than being safe. Each person has to decide who they will trust for their safety. I place my trust in God for safety. This gives me great freedom and security. It’s like standing on a hill at night, looking at the stars, listening to the coyotes howl, and knowing that whatever happens, I am safe because God is my strong protector.

God’s Reminder

Posted by Mike on 28th December 2005

I am reminded this morning how God cares for me, even in the little things. My drive to work was foggy and drizzly. After a few miles, my washer solution gave out. It was getting hard to keep the windshield clean. I pulled into a gas station, wondering if I should buy a bottle of washer fluid, or just clean my windshield and go on. To my amazement, there were two nearly empty bottles of washer fluid sitting by the trash can! I waited for a few minutes and prayed before deciding that this was God’s provision for me. I poured them into my car’s washer fluid tank. I was then able to complete my drive and keep my windshield clean. Praise God!

What is the whole point of life?

Posted by Mike on 3rd November 2005

I read a startling statistic in Computerworld’s October 31, 2005 issue today. They were quoting Forrester Research and its Consumer Technographics 2005 North American Benchmark Study.

I strongly agree with the statement “having fun is the whole point of life.”
AGE 18-34 34%
AGE 35-54 29%
AGE 55+ 19%

Contrast this with the Westminister Shorter Catechism.
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

Frog Likes Hymn

Posted by Mike on 25th October 2005

We have a frog that my children are studying. My family and I were singing Trust and Obey, Sunday night. We were on the last stanza when the frog started croaking. While it was funny, we were able to continue singing praises to our Lord with great joy in our voices! When we were done singing, so was the frog.

Ken Ham Blog

Posted by Mike on 10th June 2005

Ken Ham, the founder of Answers in Genesis now has a blog. I look forward to spending some time reading Ken’s blog. I heard Ken speak several years ago before Answers in Genesis got big. It was a big influence on my Christian walk and thinking. Here is a link to the Ken Ham Blog. I am also adding it to my permanent link list.
